Leading Yourself

Leading yourself can be a challenging, uphill battle. We give up on ourselves sooner, easier, and more often than we give up on others. We accept our excuses and validate our fears. We lead ourselves to water but are afraid to drink.

Effective leadership begins with oneself. It can be easier said than done, but it is achievable.

Learning to lead yourself begins with your purpose. I struggled for a long time to recognize my purpose. Through God's grace, I was walking and moving in my purpose, but my fears prevented me from seeing it. Understanding myself, my strengths, and my likes and dislikes helped me pull back the veil over my eyes and reveal my purpose to me.

Finding your purpose begins with…

Step One: See it so you can seize it!

I asked myself; What are my strengths? What do I enjoy doing? How do I spend my time? Asking yourself these questions allows you to articulate who you are and what you value, giving your mind's eye a visual it can see and achieve.

Step Two: Follow the breadcrumbs and acknowledge when you are fed.

I was searching for something I didn’t recognize that was right in front of me. Understanding my internal drivers, my intrinsic motivators, gave visibility to the breadcrumbs God was placing before me. I showed appreciation and acknowledged what He had been doing already in my life. Things do not happen by chance. We are given signals and messages every day. Follow the breadcrumbs God is placing in front of you. When you” see” what God has been doing, “how” He has been mapping out your life based on your strengths and your gifts, your thoughts and actions begin to align with your purpose. The breadcrumbs get bigger and more frequent as He leads you towards a table of feast and abundance.

Step Three: Act!

Dreams and words are meaningless without action. I spent too much time thinking about what I would do. Thinking about how I would do it. Thinking about the desired result. All that thinking was meaningless until I decided to ACT.

Action required me to make sacrifices.

Action required me to be uncomfortable.

Action required me to be humble.

Action required me to have faith.

Action required me to believe I could.

Action isn’t measured as big or small. It is measured by our doing. Where can we take action today? How can you ACT right now? Action gives life to your purpose. It brings your dreams to fruition. It is the best way you can lead yourself.

See it so you can seize it.

Follow the breadcrumbs and acknowledge when you are fed.

Act! Dreams and words are meaningless without action.
